Having owned a Kitchen aid grinder attachment for my 600 hd as long as i have owned my mixer, i had resigned myself to the idea that, not only will it take me a long time to grind 5 pounds of meat, but i would also have to spend the same amount of time to clean the grinder. As such, even though i loved my home made sausage more than store bought, due to time considerations i rarely took the time to grind the meat to make my own sausage.
Granted, i was skeptical about the Smokehouse chef grinder. After all what hope did anyone else have of creating a competent attachment for the mixer if Kitchen Aid couldn't do it? The Kitchen Aid grinder has had to be replaced once, and the mixer had to be replaced once also. Both items Kitchen aid replaced with no questions asked. I almost bought the Magic Chef grinder, but a review by a chef whose skills i respect suggested the Stainless Steel Smokehouse Grinder, so i purchased it.
I received my grinder a matter of days after ordering it. Upon inspection of the items, i was impressed by the level of detail taken in the machining of the knife blade. However the test was going to be in the grinding. The parts were washed in the dishwasher ( yes all pieces are dishwasher safe) the meat was purchased and the grinder was assembled. I can say, that what would take an hour from assembly to cleaning took roughly 15 minuets. Even though i tried my hardest to lag my 475 watt mother by feeding as fast as i could, not only did the motor not lag, when the process was completed, the heat generated by the mother was negligible. Something that was not true of the Kitchen Aid Grinder attachment.
This is a well engineered and milled to perfection device that i would have expected to pay more for. If you have a kitchen aid stand mixer, and have a desire to make sausage or your own hamburger, than the stainless steel Grinder by Smokehouse Grinder will be a lasting, high quality piece of equipment that has the potential to last a couple of generations. This is truly a awesome purchase!
